Separation
Remember: First safe, then orderly, then expeditious.
Core points
- Always know which separation standard you are applying.
- Use vertical, lateral, longitudinal or surveillance separation deliberately.
- Do not reduce separation to minimum unless there is a clear traffic reason.
Mumbai application
- Mumbai is high workload; protect your buffer before workload peaks.
- Crossing arrival/departure interactions need early level and heading planning.
- Weather deviations can destroy planned separation quickly.
Self-check
What should you ask when two targets look close?
Are they identified, controlled, vertically separated, laterally separated, or requiring action now?
What is good radar technique?
Resolve before minimum becomes threatened, not after an alert.
